Work Order settings let you control the order in which tasks inside a module must be completed. Use this feature when you want to enforce a structured sequence (such as onboarding steps that must happen in a specific order) or when you want to allow tasks to be completed freely.

This setting is configured at the module level in the Library and affects every project that uses that module.

Before You Begin

You’ll need access to the Library → Modules area and permission to edit modules.

Steps to Follow

1. Open the module settings

  1. Go to Library → Modules.

  2. Select the module you want to edit.

  3. Click the Settings tab at the top of the module detail pane.

2. Locate the Work Order setting

In the Settings tab, look for the Work Order section.
This setting determines the order in which tasks in the module can be worked.

3. Choose a Work Order option

Click the Work Order dropdown and choose one of the following:

• Any Order

Tasks can be completed in any sequence.
This is the default and most flexible option.

• Customer Tasks Sequential

Only customer tasks must be completed in order.
Internal tasks can be completed freely.

• Internal Tasks Sequential

Only internal tasks must follow a set order.
Customer tasks can be completed in any order.

• All Tasks Sequential

All tasks within the module must be completed in order, regardless of type.
This is ideal for workflows that depend on strict step-by-step progression.

How Work Order Behaves in Projects

Once configured, the Work Order setting is enforced when the module is used in a project:

  • Tasks that must be done sequentially will unlock only when the prior task is completed.

  • If only customer tasks are sequential, internal tasks remain flexible.

  • If only internal tasks are sequential, customer tasks remain flexible.

  • Changing the Work Order in the Library updates all future project creations using the module.
(Existing projects will not retroactively change unless you confirm this — if they do update live projects, tell me and I’ll add that.)

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Need customer tasks to progress in a guided order?
Choose Customer Tasks Sequential to ensure your customers always move through the journey step-by-step.

  • Have internal setup steps that must follow a checklist?
Use Internal Tasks Sequential to enforce team workflow consistency.

  • Sequential settings not behaving as expected?
Check whether the task type (Customer vs Internal) matches the Work Order option you selected.

  • Using linked modules?
Editing the Work Order of a linked module updates it across all playbooks using that module.
