Understanding Project Progress in OnRamp

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Project progress in OnRamp provides a quick view of how far along an onboarding project is. It helps teams monitor implementation progress, understand what work remains, and identify projects that may need attention.

Project progress is displayed as a percentage and is calculated automatically based on the completion of tasks within the project.

How Project Progress is Calculated

Project progress is determined by the number of tasks completed compared to the total number of tasks in the project.

As tasks are completed, the project progress percentage automatically increases.

For example:

  • A project with 10 total tasks

  • 5 completed tasks

Would display:

Project Progress: 50%

This provides a quick visual indicator of how much work has been completed.

Where Project Progress Appears

Project progress is visible in several places throughout OnRamp, including:

Projects List

Each project displays a progress bar and percentage so teams can quickly assess the status of multiple projects at once.

Project View

Inside a project, progress reflects the completion of tasks across all modules.

Filters and Insights

Project progress can also be used when filtering projects or reviewing reports.

Customer Portal Progress

Customers also see a project progress percentage in the customer portal.

However, the progress shown to customers may differ from what internal users see.

Customer-facing progress is calculated only from tasks that are visible to the customer, including:

  • Tasks assigned to customer users

  • Internal tasks that are visible in the portal with restricted task details

Tasks that are completely internal and not visible in the portal are not included in the customer’s progress calculation.

Example

Imagine a project with 10 total tasks:

  • 5 internal-only tasks

  • 3 internal tasks visible in the portal (restricted details)

  • 2 customer tasks

If the 2 customer tasks are complete, the progress would appear differently:

Internal View

2 of 10 tasks complete
Project Progress: 20%

Customer Portal View

2 of 5 visible tasks complete
Project Progress: 40%

This allows customers to see meaningful progress based only on the work they can observe, while internal teams maintain visibility across the full onboarding process.

How Task Completion Impacts Progress

Each task contributes to the overall project progress.

When a task is marked Complete, the project progress will automatically update.

If tasks are added or removed from a project, the progress percentage will adjust accordingly.

For example:

  • Adding additional tasks may reduce the completion percentage

  • Completing tasks increases the completion percentage

Why Project Progress Matters

Project progress helps teams:

  • Monitor onboarding timelines

  • Identify projects that may be stalled

  • Understand workload distribution

  • Provide visibility into onboarding status

Because progress updates automatically, it provides a reliable indicator of how much work has been completed.

Using Progress in Filters

Project progress can also be used in project filters to quickly locate projects at certain stages.

Examples include:

Find projects nearing completion

Project Progress greater than 75%

Identify projects that have just started

Project Progress less than 10%

This allows teams to quickly locate projects that may require attention or follow-up.

Best Practices

Keep tasks updated as work is completed
Use project progress to monitor onboarding progress across customers
Combine progress with Project Health and Engagement indicators for a fuller picture of project status
Review projects with low progress regularly to ensure work is moving forward

Project progress provides a simple and reliable way to understand how far along an onboarding project is.
