CRM update failed: the CRM rejected the value

Project automations are available when they're turned on for your organization. If you don't see an Automations tab on your projects, contact your OnRamp team.
This CRM update failed because of a value it tried to save. In the project's Logs, the Update Salesforce Field or Update Hubspot Field row has an X in Success. The message in Error describes a problem with a value, usually in your CRM's words. Payload shows the values OnRamp sent.
Why it happens
Salesforce and HubSpot check each value against the field's rules before they save it. If a value breaks a rule, the CRM rejects the update.
Before it sends anything, OnRamp checks one rule itself: length. It shortens plain text that's too long, and the update goes ahead. It doesn't shorten values such as IDs, links and multi-select values, because a shortened one would be wrong. For those, it stops instead. Error then includes accepts at most, and Payload shows only {}.
Fix it
Find the reason that matches the message in Error:
| What the message is about | What to change |
|---|---|
| A picklist value the field doesn't allow | Refresh the field list, and then select an allowed value or change the OnRamp value to match one. See Salesforce Picklist Options Don't Match in Automation Actions. |
A value that's too long, including accepts at most or exceeds the field maximum of |
Map a shorter OnRamp value, or make the field longer in your CRM. |
| A value of the wrong type, such as text in a number or date field | Map an OnRamp value of the same type as the field. If the types already match, contact support. |
| A required field without a value | Map a value to that field, or fill it in on the record in your CRM. |
| A validation rule in your CRM | Change the value so it passes the rule, or ask your CRM admin about the rule. |
- In Logs, select View in the Error column. Compare the message with the values in Payload.
- Select the automation in the list. It opens in Workflow.
- Select the Update Salesforce field or Update Hubspot field step.
- Under Map fields to update, make the change the table describes. If the change belongs in your CRM, make it there instead.
- Select Save.
- Repeat the event on the project. Then, in Logs, select Refresh to see the new row.
Still stuck?
Contact support with the project's name and link, the row's Timestamp, and the text from Error and Payload. Include the field's API name and type in your CRM.
