Add Tasks and Subtasks in OnRamp

Last updated: March 13, 2026

Tasks are the atoms of every OnRamp project — but alone, they can only do so much. Pair them with subtasks and the Task Builder, and suddenly a simple checkbox becomes a fully guided workflow: branching logic, file requests, video embeds, e-signatures, and more. Here’s how to build tasks that actually do the work for you.

Create a Basic Task

  1. Navigate to the Playbook or Project where the task will live.
  2. Click + New Task.
  3. Enter a clear Name and assign it to the right role or person.
  4. Add a Description if extra context would help.
  5. Click Save.

That’s your foundation. Now let’s make it powerful.

Open the Task Builder

  1. In your task list, find the Subtasks column next to your task.
  2. Click the Open Task Builder icon.
  3. The Task Builder opens with a drag-and-drop canvas for building your subtask flow.

Add Subtask Steps

From the left panel, drag any of these step types into your canvas:

  • Single Choice — radio buttons for one answer
  • Multi-Choice — checkboxes for multiple answers
  • Dropdown — cleaner UI for longer option lists
  • Yes / No — the simplest branch point
  • Text Answer — short or long-form text input
  • File Share / File Request — share or collect documents
  • Date / DateTime — capture specific dates
  • Text Instructions — rich-text guidance (no input required)
  • Share a Video — upload or embed from YouTube
  • Embeddable — any URL or HTML embed
  • Adobe eSign — collect e-signatures (requires integration)

Configure each step in the right-hand panel. Delete any step with the trash icon.

Add Branching Logic

Yes/No, Dropdown, and Single Choice steps support branching — tailor the flow based on how someone answers.

  1. Add one of the supported step types.
  2. Logic branches appear automatically below each answer option.
  3. Click (+) on a branch to add follow-up subtasks that only appear when that answer is selected.
  4. Branches can nest multiple levels deep for sophisticated flows.

Task-Level Settings

  • Dependencies — require other tasks to be completed first
  • Visibility — internal-only or customer-facing
  • Step order — require steps in sequence or allow flexible completion
  • Customer Feedback — collect a thumbs up/down when the task is done
  • Data Fields — attach custom fields to capture structured data

Troubleshooting

  • No + New Task button? Tasks must live inside a Module — make sure you’re inside one before adding.
  • Branching logic not showing? Only Yes/No, Dropdown, and Single Choice steps support it.
  • Task not visible to customers? Check the Visibility setting in the task editor.
