Marking a Project as Complete or Archived

Last updated: March 10, 2026

Projects in OnRamp help teams manage onboarding and implementation work with customers. As work progresses, you may want to indicate when a project has been finished or remove it from active views.

By default, all new projects start with a status of In Progress.

When work is finished, a project can be completed. If a project should be excluded from normal views or reporting—such as test or cancelled projects—it can be archived.

How to Mark a Project Complete or Archived

To update a project’s status:

  1. Open the Project

  2. Click the Settings tab

  3. Choose one of the available options:

    • Complete Project

    • Archive Project

The project will immediately update to the selected status.

Completing all Tasks in a Project will also cause the project to update to a 'Complete' status automatically.

Using Custom Internal Statuses

Some teams prefer to track more granular internal project stages than the default statuses available in OnRamp.

For example:

  • Kickoff Scheduled

  • Implementation In Progress

  • Awaiting Customer Input

  • Internal Review

  • Ready for Go-Live

These additional statuses can be created using Project Data Fields.

Teams commonly create a custom data field such as:

Internal Project Status

This allows you to define and track more detailed stages while still using the built-in project statuses:

  • In Progress

  • Complete

  • Archived

This approach provides flexibility while keeping reporting and system behavior consistent.

Best Practices

Mark projects Complete when onboarding work has finished
Archive test or cancelled projects so they do not affect reporting
Use data fields for more detailed internal project stages
Keep project statuses up to date so dashboards and insights remain accurate

Maintaining accurate project status helps teams quickly understand what work is active and what has already been completed.
