Why Aren’t My Data Fields Showing Up on New Projects?

The setting that controls this is called Add on Creation — and if it isn’t enabled for a data field, it won’t automatically appear in your new projects.

When you create a new project in OnRamp and notice that some of your custom data fields are missing, it’s often because those fields aren’t configured to appear at project creation. The setting that controls this is called Add on Creation — and if it isn’t enabled for a data field, it won’t automatically appear in your new projects.

When to Use This

Use this guide whenever new projects aren’t displaying all the expected data fields (for example, “Customer Site ID” or “Primary Contact”). You’ll learn how to check each field’s settings and ensure they’re included by default.

Steps to Fix Missing Data Fields

1. Open Your Data Fields Settings

  1. From the left-hand navigation, go to Settings → Data Fields
    Or, go directly to https://app.onramp.us/dashboard/settings/data-fields

  2. You’ll see a table listing all active data fields for your organization.

2. Identify the Missing Fields

Look for the fields that aren’t appearing on your new projects.
Check the Add on Creation column in the table:

  • If the checkbox is unchecked, that field won’t show when you create a project.

  • If it’s checked, the field will appear automatically.

💡 Tip: You can use the Filter by location dropdown to show only Project fields — since only those can appear on project creation.

3. Edit the Field Settings

  1. Click the pencil (edit) icon next to the missing field.

  2. In the edit panel, toggle Add on Creation to On.

  3. Click Save.

Going forward, this field will now appear automatically when you create a new project.

4. Verify Your Changes

Create a quick test project to confirm your updated data fields appear as expected.
If they still don’t show up:

  • Double-check that the field’s Location is set to Project

  • Make sure the field isn’t archived

  • Confirm that your Playbook or Workflow doesn’t override field visibility

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Existing projects won’t update automatically — the new setting applies only to projects created after the change.

  • Archived fields can’t be shown on creation. Reactivate them first if needed.

  • Permissions: Only users with admin or settings access can edit Data Fields.
