Control Task Order in a Module with Work Order Settings
Last updated: March 13, 2026
Work Order settings let you control whether tasks inside a module can be completed in any order or must follow a strict sequence. Configure it once in the Library and it applies everywhere that module is used.
Before You Begin
You’ll need access to Library › Modules with permission to edit modules.
Step 1: Open the Module Settings
- Go to Library › Modules.
- Select the module you want to configure.
- Click the Settings tab at the top of the module detail pane.
Step 2: Set the Work Order
In the Settings tab, find the Work Order section and choose one of the four options:
- Any Order — Tasks can be completed in any sequence. This is the default.
- Customer Tasks Sequential — Customer tasks must be completed in order; internal tasks are flexible.
- Internal Tasks Sequential — Internal tasks must follow a set order; customer tasks are flexible.
- All Tasks Sequential — Every task in the module must be completed in order, regardless of type. Best for strict step-by-step workflows.
How Work Order Behaves in Projects
Once set, the Work Order is enforced whenever the module is used in a project:
- Sequential tasks unlock only after the prior task is completed.
- If only one task type is sequential, the other type remains available in any order.
- Updating the Work Order in the Library applies to all future projects using that module.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Want to guide customers through onboarding step-by-step? Use Customer Tasks Sequential so customers always progress in the intended order.
- Need internal setup steps to follow a checklist? Internal Tasks Sequential enforces team workflow consistency without constraining customers.
- Sequential order not working as expected? Double-check that the task type (Customer vs. Internal) matches the Work Order option you selected.
- Using linked modules? Editing the Work Order of a linked module updates it across every playbook that uses it.
