Working with Task Due Dates

Last updated: March 13, 2026

Task dates keep your projects on schedule and visible in timeline views like the Gantt chart. Start dates and due dates work together.

Setting a Start or End Date

  1. Open the task you want to update.

  2. Enter a Start Date and/or End Date in the task details.

Adjusting the Task Dates

  • Change either Date to extend beyond or move back from the original date as needed.

  • OnRamp will not allow a due date before the start date and vice versa.

    • To backdate: update the start date first, then set the new due date.

Manually Marking a Task In Progress

Internal users can manually set a task to In Progress at any time. This is especially useful when:

  • Work is happening outside the platform. If a task represents something being done in another tool or offline, marking it In Progress signals your team that work is actively underway.

  • The task is taking longer than expected. Keeps other team members informed that the task is in motion, not forgotten.

  • You want customers to see your progress. If you have made an internal task visible in the customer portal, marking it In Progress lets them know you are working on it.

  • Your customer is working outside OnRamp. For customer tasks without subtasks where the customer is doing work elsewhere, marking it In Progress keeps the project status accurate.

How Overdue Status Works

A task is marked Overdue when the current date is past the due date and the task has not been completed.

Tips

  • Always set a start date. Tasks without a start date will appear in Gantt view on the project end date.

  • Use filters to find overdue tasks across all your projects quickly.

  • Shifting a full project timeline? Update the project end date in Settings rather than adjusting tasks one-by-one.
