Ask Aero in Insights
Last updated: May 11, 2026
Staring at a chart full of bars and timelines is one thing. Knowing what to do about it is another.
Ask Aero is built into every Insights chart to help you move from data to decisions faster. This article covers how it works, what you can ask, and how to get the most out of it.
What Ask Aero Does
Ask Aero is available on every chart in Insights. It analyzes the data currently visible in the chart — with whatever filters you've applied — and helps you interpret what you're seeing, surface patterns, and identify what needs attention.
It works best when you treat it like a fast first analysis. Instead of manually scanning rows for the owner with the heaviest workload, the playbook that consistently runs over, or the projects that are quietly stalling, you can ask directly and get a focused answer in seconds.
Opening and Navigating
When you open any Insights chart, click Ask Aero in the Insights page header to open the panel to chat with your data. Clicking Ask Aero again closes the panel if you want more space to view the Insight chart.
Navigating to a different chart updates the panel automatically — the suggestion chips update to match the new chart, and Aero's context switches to the data you're now looking at.
Suggestion Chips
When Ask Aero opens, it surfaces a set of suggestion chips — curated starting points specific to the chart you're on. These are designed to ask the most useful questions for that chart's data.
Each chart has its own set. A few examples:
| Chart | Example Chips |
|---|---|
| Project Schedule Timeline | Which project owners have the most overlapping projects right now? / Which project owners have the most upcoming available capacity? |
| Project Velocity | Which project owners are building a backlog vs. clearing one? / ⚡ Review and complete old projects |
| Project Health Overview | What do the most at-risk projects have in common? / Which at-risk projects show signs of recovering on track? |
| Task Performance | Which tasks are causing the most delay across projects? / What characteristics do the most overdue tasks share? |
| Customer Task Feedback | What are the most common themes in customer task feedback? |
| Portal Engagement | Which projects show the most declining portal engagement? |
Chips are always specific to what the chart can answer. They update whenever you switch charts.
Asking Your Own Questions
Beyond the chips, you can type any question directly into the chat input. Ask Aero can answer questions like:
- Which playbooks have the highest rate of projects completing late?
- Are there owners with significant capacity who could take on more projects?
- What's driving the low health scores in this period?
- What do the bars on this chart represent?
- How is velocity calculated?
Responses stream as Aero types. For analytical answers, Aero surfaces a data scope block showing the number of records and filters it analyzed — so you always know what the answer is based on. Key numbers appear as metric cards alongside the response.
Follow-up questions retain the context from earlier in the conversation. If Aero identifies a pattern and you want to dig in, just ask.
If Aero can't answer something from the chart data — like a question about a feature or setting outside of Insights — it will say so and suggest where to look instead.
Taking Action from Insights
On the Project Velocity chart, Ask Aero can identify projects that are strong candidates to be marked complete — projects where all tasks are done but the project is still active, projects whose planned end date is 30 or more days past, or projects whose names suggest test or demo data.
When it finds matches, Aero surfaces an action card with the candidates listed. You can review the list, deselect any you want to keep active, and confirm. OnRamp marks the selected projects as complete.
What Ask Aero Won't Do
Ask Aero works from the data that's currently loaded in the chart — the same data you're looking at, shaped by the date range, account, and other filters you've applied. A few boundaries to keep in mind:
- It can't see data outside the current chart's filters. If you've filtered to the last 30 days, Aero's analysis reflects that window.
- It can't modify projects, tasks, or playbooks directly (except the Complete Projects action on Project Velocity).
- It can't create new Insights charts or change how a chart is configured.
- It won't fabricate data. If a question requires information that isn't in the chart context, Aero will tell you rather than guess.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ask Aero use the same filters I've applied to the chart?
Yes. Aero analyzes the data as it appears with your current filters. If you change the date range or filter by account, Aero's answers reflect the updated data.
Can I ask about multiple charts in one conversation?
Each chart has its own conversation. When you navigate to a different chart, the context switches. If you return to a previous chart, your earlier conversation is restored.
What if I navigate away and come back — will my conversation still be there?
Yes. Conversations are saved per chart within your session. Returning to a chart restores where you left off.
Why don't I see a text input box?
Ask Aero includes a free-text input field. If you don't see it, this feature may not be enabled on your account. Contact your OnRamp CSM to confirm.
Why don't I see the Complete Projects action card on Project Velocity?
The action card only appears when Aero identifies projects that match the completion criteria. If no candidates are found, the card won't be shown. If you believe it should be appearing and isn't, the action controls feature may not be enabled — reach out to your account team.
Can Ask Aero answer questions about features or settings outside of Insights?
If Aero can't answer from the chart data, it will redirect you to the right place or suggest asking your OnRamp account team.
