User Types: Collaborators and Contributors
Last updated: March 27, 2026
Collaborator and Contributor are two of the most common internal user types in OnRamp — and they look similar on paper. Here’s a clear breakdown of what each role can actually see and do, so you can assign them with confidence.
The Short Version
The primary difference: Collaborators have access to Views and Insights. Contributors do not.
Both roles can participate in projects, complete tasks, leave comments, reassign tasks, add or remove subtasks, and change task visibility. The line is drawn at cross-project visibility tools.
What Contributors See
A Contributor’s left-hand navigation is intentionally minimal:
Dashboard — access to projects and tasks assigned to them
Users — can view (but not edit) internal users
That’s it. Contributors are focused participants — they show up, do their tasks, and stay out of the weeds of project management.
What Collaborators See
A Collaborator’s navigation includes everything Contributors see, plus:
Search — search across comments, tasks, and projects
Views — create and save filtered views of projects, tasks, and comments
Insights — track completion trends, monitor timelines, and identify areas for improvement
Collaborators are your active onboarding team — the people who need the full picture to do their jobs well.
Typical Team Structure
Role | User Type | Why |
Strategic Implementation Manager | Super Admin | Controls project structure, users, and reporting |
Customer Success Manager | Collaborator | Coordinates relationship, participates in onboarding tasks |
Implementation Specialist | Collaborator | Manages project activities and customer communication |
CS Leadership (Director/VP) | Collaborator | Views Insights and project health without needing to manage projects |
Account Executive | Contributor | Supports deal handoff — only needs task access |
Solutions Architect | Contributor | Completes architecture or configuration tasks |
Finance | Contributor | Handles contract activation or billing setup tasks |
Leadership and delivery teams get full visibility. Supporting teams participate only where their expertise is needed.
Quick Rule of Thumb
If someone needs to track progress, run reports, or work across multiple projects → Collaborator
If someone just needs to complete specific assigned tasks → Contributor
